*US, WW1, M1 1918 Knuckle Trench Knife Grip, by L.F.& C.*

The handle is marked “U.S. 1918, L.F & C -1918” the maker Landers, Frary & Clark.

Amid the harsh conditions of trench warfare in World War I, the need for close combat weapons became evident. The M1917 trench knife, crafted by Henry Disston and Sons, was among the first dedicated tools for American soldiers. Inspired by French designs, it featured a metal knuckle guard and a triangular stabbing blade. Its successor, the M1918 trench knife, proved inadequate, leading to the development of the Mark I trench knife with a cast brass handle and dual-edged blade. Stamped with "U.S. 1918," it served as a crucial tool for close combat in trench warfare, offering soldiers a specialized weapon with an integrated knuckleduster for added versatility.

*Condition*
