The Lee-Metford 1888 Bayonet was a bayonet designed for use with the Lee-Metford rifle, which was the standard British Army rifle from 1888 to 1895. The bayonet was also used with the subsequent Lee-Enfield rifles. The Lee-Metford rifle and bayonet were the standard issue weapons for the British Army until they were replaced by the Lee-Enfield rifle in the mid-1890s. However, many Lee-Metford rifles and bayonets remained in use with the British Army and other military forces well into the 20th century, and some were even used during World War I and World War II.

This Lee-Metford 1888 Bayonet has a 12 inch blade made of high-carbon steel. The blade has a double-edged spear point and a single fuller, or groove, on both sides. The handle is made of wood with a steel crossguard and pommel. This bayonet appears to have the markings 131 on the pommel. Stamped on the blade is the Queen Victoria royal cypher, 2 '02, Sanderson, Sheffield. On the reverse of the ricasso is the British military acceptance marks of a broad arrow, a bending mark X and various proof marks. The scabbard is made of leather with a steel tip.

The bayonet is in great condition for its age and usage with some minor pitting in areas and light marks. The grip is strong and undamaged and all markings are clear. The scabbard is in good condition with a patina reflective of its' age, The bayonet sheaths and draws smoothly. Please see pictures for more detail.
