*Nigerian, Tiv Tribe's Archers Loop Dagger*

This is an iron dagger with a loop handle, traditionally utilized by the Tiv people of the Benue Valley in what is currently Nigeria.

These daggers bear a resemblance to bichawas, as they are worn around the knuckles and employed alongside a thumb ring. Their primary functions are aiding in drawing a bow and providing archers with a secondary weapon held ready in their offhand. When needed, the archer keeps these daggers at the ready, with the tip pointing downward, in case the target comes too close.

The loop appears to be one piece welded to the sides of the base of the blade and features incised decorative indents on the outside surface. The triangular blade is decorated down the central raised ridge. 19.5cm blade. 28cm overall.

*Condition*
A unique and rare find this thrusting dagger is in excellent condition with some age related discoloration. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
