The Pistole 38, a German semi-automatic pistol intended to replace the Luger P08 which was expensive to produce, was developed in 1938, with full-scale production commencing in 1940 till 1945. It offered similar performance to the Luger P08 but took almost half the time to produce. Throughout the WW2 era, approximately 584,500 P38s were manufactured by Walther, while Mauser and Spreewerk produced around 323,000 and 283,000 respectively.
It was the pioneer in utilizing a locked breech action coupled with a double-action/single-action (DA/SA) trigger mechanism. This innovative design enabled the pistol's hammer to remain at rest while a round was chambered, with subsequent trigger pulls firing the pistol in double-action mode, followed by single-action for subsequent shots. The adoption of this DA/SA trigger configuration has been widespread in numerous other pistol models since its inception.
*Condition*
This Mauser P38 is in excellent condition. Correctly stamped with Waffen code WaA135 with matching numbers. Comes fitted with correct wartime subcontracted jvd marked magazine. Deactivated to old spec it cocks and dry fires. The grip has a wonderful patina. The hard holster is in excellent condition with all stitching intact.
