The Fusil Gras Modèle 1874 M80 was a French service rifle of the 19th century. The Gras used by the French Army was an adaptation to metallic cartridge of the Chassepot breech-loading rifle by Colonel Basile Gras.

The bayonet, commonly known as Model 1874 "Gras" sword bayonet it is stamped on its quilion with a series of acceptance proof marks and serial number ‘N86817’. The blade is also stamped ‘M’ and ‘S’.
The rim of the bayonet bears the clear mark ‘M-re di armes de St Etienne Mars 1879’.
The metal scabbard has matching serial numbers with the bayonet.

~ Dimensions ~

The blade is 20 ½ inches (52 cm) long and the overall length of the piece is 25.19 inches (64 cm).

~ Condition ~

The metalwork remains in excellent condition with minor spots of surface rust on the guard and scabbard. The wooden grip has wear marks but is crack free.
The spring catch safety button is in good order and functioning as intended.
