This is an M1928A1 variant of the ‘Tommy Gun’. The Thompson was originally designed to break the stalemate of trench warfare of World War I, but was not finished until after the war ended. The M1928A1, which had provisions for both straight and drum magazines, had cooling fins on the barrel and employed a delayed blowback action with the charging handle on the top of the receiver. This particular model comes with a removable magazine. The charging handle and trigger move.
