The sword is stamped with the serial number ‘55816’, indicating the manufacturing year as 1918.
Its edge is also marked ‘London Made’.
The blade is etched with scrolling arabesques on both sides.
One side the blade is etched with the sword-smiths name ‘Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London’, the British coat of arms and the Royal Artillery cannon and Ubique badge.
The opposite side is etched with the RA standard, ‘Royal Artillery’ inscription and is marked with the proof star.
Also there is a later etching that reads ‘Recovered by C.H.T. LUCAS RBR, 25/4/15 Gallipoli, To Col. A. Lewis RA’.
Due to the fact that the manufacturing year is 1918 it is quite clear that this sword was not used in the campaign.
Most probably, being offered as a gift and being similar with the ones used at Gallipoli, this detail has been overlooked and the piece was presented as such.
The grip is made of metal wired black shagreen.
The sword comes with its brown leather scabbard.
~ Dimensions ~
The blade length is 34 inches (86.5 cm) and the overall length of the sword is 40 ½ inches (103 cm).
The overall length of the sword in its scabbard is 41 ½ inches (105.5 cm).
The sword weighs 1.25 Kg.
~ Condition ~
The blade is in excellent condition with no wear.
The hilt has lost its chrome.
The scabbard is in fair used condition, as seen in the pictures.
