The M8A1 bayonet is a modified version of the earlier M4 bayonet, which was designed to fit the M1 Carbine. The M8A1 was designed to fit the M1 Garand rifle and the M1903 Springfield rifle. It features a 6.75-inch (17.1 cm) blade and a plastic or leather handle, depending on the manufacturer and production period. The blade had a bowie-style shape, and it was intended to serve both as a bayonet and a utility knife.
One notable feature of the M8A1 bayonet is its attachment system, which allowed it to be quickly mounted to the rifle's muzzle. This made it useful for various tasks such as cutting vegetation, opening cans, and of course, close combat situations.
