*US, Very Large Modern Presentation Bowie Knife with Stag Antler Grip & Tooled Leather Sheath*
Impressive oversized modern presentation Bowie knife, featuring a massive clip-point blade with pronounced curvature and a broad polished cutting edge. The blade retains a darkened, forge-finished upper surface with extensive hand-worked hammer texturing, contrasting sharply with the bright ground edge below. The knife is fitted with a substantial oval brass crossguard and a natural stag antler grip, retaining the crown and burr at the pommel, giving the piece a powerful and distinctly American frontier aesthetic.
The knife is accompanied by a heavy brown leather sheath, decorated with stamped geometric tooling and secured by a wide belt loop with brass press-stud fastener. The press-stud bears the Great Seal of the State of Oklahoma, clearly struck and legible. Overall, this is a dramatic and imposing Bowie, clearly intended as a presentation or display piece rather than a utilitarian field knife.
Approx. Measurements - Blade length: 42.5 cm. Overall length: 61 cm. Crossguard: 11.5 cm × 3.6 cm. Blade width (at widest point): 9.5 cm. Weight: approx. 4 lbs
Historical Note:
Large presentation Bowies of this scale became especially popular during the mid- to late-20th century, reflecting a revival of interest in American frontier history, state pride, and commemorative craftsmanship. The use of exaggerated proportions, stag antler grips, and boldly finished blades was intended to create visual impact rather than practical field utility.
The sheath’s press-stud displays the Great Seal of the State of Oklahoma, featuring a prominent five-pointed star containing the seals of five Native American tribes, encircled by the legend “GREAT SEAL OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA 1907”, commemorating the year of statehood. This detail strongly reinforces the knife’s commemorative or presentation purpose and suggests production for ceremonial, display, or state-associated gifting rather than everyday use.
*Condition*
Very good overall condition. The polished cutting edge retains strong visual presence. No obvious cracks or structural issues observed. The brass crossguard show minor surface marks. The stag antler grip is solid, with natural texture, colour variation, and minor age wear. The leather sheath remains structurally sound, with minor surface wear, creasing, and scuffing. The Oklahoma State seal press-stud is worn but clear and legible. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
A striking and highly visual American presentation Bowie, combining dramatic scale, traditional materials, and a clearly defined Oklahoma state association. An excellent display piece for collectors of American knives, frontier-themed artefacts, or state commemorative items.
