~ Three Band Mark III Enfield Pattern 1853 Smooth Bore Sepoy Musket ~

This is one of approximately 14,000 Enfield’s made in 1865 for foreign issue after
the Indian Mutiny.
The stock has been refinished and has one small dent near the wrist of the musket.
The barrel and lock have been refinished and re-blued at some point, but not in the last 20 years.

The lock reads 1865 Tower V.R. ENFIELD (Worn but visible).

The barrel is marked: Crown E 2 and Crown E 3 (second mark is harder to see).
Under the barrel: NEC. At end of Barrel (by Tang):C5650.
Under the barrel on wood: FF FF. Under the lock: H3 FF.
Under the lock on the wood: plain.
Under the Trigger Guard: FF. Hammer: FF E crown 11.
On the butt plate: FF on the inside.
Under the lock plate is prolifically marked
with Enfield markings: Crown E 10, Crown 13, H3, H6, FF, Crown E16. There are
also several WD Broad Arrow Marks.

The Musket comes with a correct British bayonet, marked WD Crown over F 2.

The metal on the bayonet has weathered to a dark grey pitted finish.

~ Dimenions ~

The overall length of the piece is 55.36 inches (138.4cm).

~ Condition ~

The inside of the barrel is shiny and has some rust.

The musket half cocks, cocks and releases with a strong spring.

The ramrod is a replacement piece.

The overall condition of the piece is excellent.
