Original 1796 Pattern Osborn & Gunby Light Cavalry Sabre and Scabbard

Out of stock

The 1796 Osborne and Gunby sabre is a sword that was used by the British Army during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. They were primarily used by British light cavalry units, such as the hussars and dragoons, during the Napoleonic Wars. The design of the sword also allowed for effective cutting and slashing attacks, which was particularly useful against infantry formations.

The sword has a curved blade that is about 32 inches long and is single-edged with a fuller on both sides. The hilt is made of brass and features a knuckle guard and a curved quillon. The grip is made of wood and is covered in leather and twisted wire.

This is a sought-after collector's item and is an important piece of British military history.

*Condition*

This sword is in great condition with some surface pitting in keeping with its age and use. The grip is quite worn and the wire is coming loose at one end. Please see pictures for more detail
