*German, WW2, Silver Grade Wound Badge (Verwundetenabzeichen), Solid Back*

A genuine Second World War Silver Grade Wound Badge, awarded for three or four combat wounds or for a single severe injury resulting in permanent disability or disfigurement. Die-struck in non-magnetic zinc (solid-back type), the obverse displays the M35 helmet with raised mobile swastika over crossed swords, set against a pebbled field and enclosed by an oak-leaf wreath tied at the base.

Reverse correctly plain, retaining the original late-war hardware: soldered block hinge, round wire pin, and bent sheet-metal catch — all non-magnetic and fully functional. Badge measures approximately 4.5 cm x 3.7 cm.

Historical Note:
First introduced in March 1918, the Wound Badge recognised German soldiers wounded in action. It continued into WW2 and was awarded across the Wehrmacht, Luftwaffe and SS, as well as to civilians injured during air raids or enemy action. The Silver Grade (2nd Class) represented a higher level of sacrifice and is notably scarcer than the more widely issued Black Grade. Late-war zinc examples are prone to finish loss due to material degradation; surviving pieces with strong detail remain very collectable.

*Condition*
Good original condition. Light overall wear with typical loss of silver wash to the zinc body, now showing attractive age patination that enhances relief. No damage or repairs. Hinge, pin, and catch remain intact and operate correctly. Unmarked reverse — common and correct for the period. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
