With the outbreak of World War I, production escalated rapidly to meet military demands, resulting in over 276,000 units manufactured, making it the most prevalent variant of the Model 1914. Referred to as the Wartime Commercial 1914 by Pender, this variant is distinguished by its one-line slide inscription in all capital sans-serif characters: WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER A.G. OBERNDORFA.N. MAUSER’S PATENT.
