German M1898 New Pattern Bayonet by Schilling

Out of stock

SKU: JA_112548939 Category:

This is the second pattern of the 1898 Mauser bayonet introduced by the German Army. The first model had a grip made of one single piece of wood, which was wrapped around the tang.

This second one is a simplified and strengthened model, called n.A. (neu Art), with a grip made of two halves from wood and it was introduced in service in 1902.

Our piece is stamped on the blade with the makers name of "V.C. Schilling Suhl". The back edge is stamped with a Crown over an "O" (King Otto of Bavaria) and a date "06" (1906) followed by an inspection stamp.

The crossguard is stamped with regimental markings of "4.I.2.241.” and the pommel is stamped with two Imperial inspection marks.

~ Dimensions ~

The blade length is 52 cm (20 ½ inches) and the overall length of the piece is 65.5 cm (25 ¾ inches).

It weighs 460 g.

~ Condition ~

The blade has some minor surface rust, quite easy to clean. Otherwise it remains in good shape, free of damage.

The wooden grips are excellent, as can be seen in the pictures.

The safety catch works fine.
