Early 1800s Victorian Police Hanger

Police/Prison Officer’s Cutlass Circa 1820

Out of stock

SKU: RMQJA_784464475 Categories: ,

This police cutlass is a beautiful, pre-1850s sword. It has clear etchings on the blade which state ‘Berwick County Constabulary No.5’ and ‘Parker Field & Sons 233 Holborn London’. These swords were given to police officers when it was necessary for their personal protection. They were only to be worn at night, during times of rioting or on emergency orders from the Chief Constable. This particular cutlass does not feature a safety catch which means that it is an earlier model from the 1800s.

*Condition*

A heavily pitted blade in keeping with its age. Etched detail still clearly visible and guard in very good condition. The scabbard is in poor condition with the end missing. Please see pictures for more detail as these form part of our condition report.
