HMS Salmon was a second-batch S-class submarine built for the Royal Navy and commissioned in 1935. One of the "Twelve Little S-Boats," she saw significant action in WWII. On December 4, 1939, Salmon torpedoed and sank the German U-boat U-36 in the North Sea. The following days, she encountered the German liner SS Bremen—choosing not to attack—and then damaged two German cruisers during an engagement, evading destroyer pursuit for two hours. She was lost on July 9, 1940, likely due to a mine, and in 2008, her wreck was reportedly discovered near that of her sister, HMS Shark, off Norway.
