*British, Post-1952, Royal Engineers EIIR Cap Badge – Bi-Metal Staybrite, Slider Fitting, Firmin London*
A good original British Army Royal Engineers cap badge, in bi-metal staybrite finish, featuring the Queen Elizabeth II Royal Cypher “EIIR” to the centre, surmounted by the St Edward’s Crown and enclosed within the Royal Engineers motto belt, “Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense.” The lower scroll reads “Royal Engineers”, with silvered laurel sprays to either side.
The reverse is fitted with a vertical slider, clearly maker-marked “Firmin, London”, one of the best-known British military badge manufacturers. The Queen’s Crown and EIIR cypher date this example to the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, 1952–2022, with the staybrite construction indicating a later 20th-century issue rather than wartime brass.
Approx. Measurements – Height: 4.5 cm. Width: 4 cm.
History Note: The Corps of Royal Engineers is one of the oldest and most technically important corps of the British Army, responsible for military engineering, demolitions, bridging, fortifications, field works, bomb disposal, and specialist infrastructure support. Their motto, “Ubique” — “Everywhere” — reflects the Corps’ service across virtually every major British campaign.
