~ M1898/1888 Austro-Hungarian Mannlicher Bayonet With Frog and Belt ~
This is a rather peculiar example of what seems to be an 1898 pattern of a very early batch, using the 1871/84/88 pattern blade.
The blade is stamped with the Waffenfabrik-Gesellschaft (Austrian State Weapons Manufacturing Company), Steyr manufacturing mark on one side and the Austro-Hungarian eagle on the other.
The cross-guard bears the serial number ‘87’.
The steel scabbard is also properly stamped on the hook WG above the eagle.
The piece comes with its original leather frog and belt.
The belt buckle is shaped as a double headed snake.
~ Condition ~
The blade remains in very good condition.
The wooden grips aged a bit but their overall condition is very good.
The scabbard has been scraped of its paint at one point in time for conservation purposes.
The leather aged but remains free of any significant damage.
