~ 1930’s Carlton Ware Handcraft Cherry Pattern Jug ~
A large 1930’s Carlton Ware from their ‘Handcraft’ range jug decorated in the Cherry pattern.
The jug is of ovoid form with a single handle and an unusual bulbous step just below the rim.
The jug is decorated with images of cherries and leaves in on a mottled dark blue ground.
The jug is painted in a matt glaze, which distinguished much of this important range and which presents a luxurious, silky appearance.
The jug is marked to the underside with ‘Carlton Ware’ and ‘Handcraft’ factory marks.
There is also a pattern number of ‘3272’, an order number of ‘4/946’ as well as a couple of hand written marks, one of which appears to be the initial ‘B’.
~ Dimensions ~
The jug has an approximate diameter of 16.5cm (6 ½ inches) and a height of 20cm (8 inches).
It weighs 785g.
~ Condition ~
There are a couple of white marks, possibly flecks of paint round the base of the handle but these are quite insignificant.
The jug is otherwise in a very nice condition with no wear to the glaze and no chips, cracks or repairs.
