~ 18th Century Japanese Hanbo ~

Here we have a Hanbo, the lower face protector worn as a part of a Samurai suit of armour, this would attach round the back of the head and be put in place under the Kabuto or helmet.

The Hanbo is a piece of armour for the lower face and used as a further way of securing the helmet to the head when mounted.

This Hanbo is made of iron and lacquered a deep red on the outside and a lighter terracotta red on the inside.

Underneath the main section of the Hanbo there is an articulated gorget held together by silk thread.

~ Dimensions ~

The Hanbo is 6 inches (15 cm) wide.

The Hanbo is 7 inches (18 cm) deep.

The Hanbo weighs 320g.

~ Condition ~

The Hanbo is in a good condition for its age with some minor cosmetic damage to the lacquer.

The fabric threads show some dirt but are in good condition for their age.
