~ 16th Century Family Blade (Katana) Three Holes In Tang & Fullered ~

This is a beautifully decorated sword with an outstanding well handmade Unokubi-Zukuri pattern blade in its original polish.

There are three holes in the tang which indicate the age of the sword.

Its mune (blade back) is shaped in the 'Ihori' style and its kissaki (point) is ‘o’ (long).

The boshi (sword tip) hamon is shaped in the yakizume (no turn-back) pattern.

The hamon is shaped in the Sugu (straight) pattern.

The swords fittings are made of gilded copper and steel.

The habaki (blade locket/ferrule) is made of decorated gilded copper.

The tsuba (guard) is made of steel, blossom flower shaped, surrounded with a gilded margin and decorated inside with four embossed cherry flowers sited back to back.

There are seven seppa (spacer), on one side of the tsuba and another one on the other side.

The kashira (pommel) is manufactured and decorated with a sun flower arrangement.

The tsuka (grip) is made of bamboo covered with cream rayskin and varnished woven silk. The menuki (ornament) takes the form of a sunflower arrangement.

The tang nakako (shape) is Kijimomo with a nakago-jiri (tang’s tip) shaped in the Haagari pattern with no yasurime (tang file marks).

On a closer look a signature can be seen on the lower end of the tang.

Ji-Nei activities can be seen on the blade.

The sword comes with a gold painted plate marked `Japanese Sword Surrendered by Lieut-General Eitaro Naka to Lieut-Col L.Alexander Burma 1943`.

~ Dimensions ~

The blade length is 26 ½ inches (67 cm), without the tang.

The sword in its scabbard length is 37 ½ inches (95 cm).

The complete weight is 1.13 Kg.

~ Condition ~

The blade is good, free of rust showing activities.

The woven silk has minimum wear.

All its fittings are excellent.

The scabbard is in very good condition with a few score marks.
