~ 14th Century Lion Lintel Piece ~
Here we have a piece of English architectural history, a stone lion carved circa 1350 from a lintel in Oxford.
The piece is carved from Sarsen Stone, a famous stone indigenous to the UK used for parts of Stonehenge and many other pieces of British architecture and stonework.
The lion is wonderfully carved and very representative of the heraldic symbols used at the time in England.
The carving was removed in the 19th Century.

It has a width of 18 inches (46cm), a depth of 8.5 inches (22cm) and a height of 13.25 inches (34cm).
It weighs approximately 35Kg
~ Condition ~
The stone is in wonderful condition for its age considering the material.
Sarsen Stone is an extremely durable stone and it shows.
