~ WW2 1943 German Mauser K98 Bolt Action Rifle and Sling Deactivated ~

This is an fine example of a 1943 dated Mauser rifle by ‘bcd’ war time code for the Gustloff Werke in Weimar, Germany. It is a well travelled rifle that could definitely tell a story or two. The barrel has the number 42497. The top of the chamber is serial numbered 12661s and waffenampt stamped, BNP with a crown are the UK import firing proofs. The "X" suggests that at some point it was a russian captured rifle. The trigger/floor plate is numbered 4787 and waffenampt stamped. The bolt has the number 8975 etched onto the bolt with an electric engraving pencil which was common with Russian reworks.

The Karabiner 98 kurz is a bolt-action rifle chambered for the 7.92×57mm Mauser cartridge. It was adopted on 21 June 1935 as the standard service rifle by the German Wehrmacht. It was one of the final developments in the long line of Mauser military rifles.

Although supplemented by semi-automatic and fully automatic rifles during World War II, the Karabiner 98k remained the primary German service rifle until the end of the war in 1945. Millions were captured by the Soviets at the conclusion of World War II and were widely distributed as military aid. The Karabiner 98k therefore continues to appear in conflicts across the world as they are taken out of storage during times of strife.
