~ WW1 French Marble And Repousse White Metal Paperweight ~
The turned base is of a brick red marble with white striations.
Affixed to the top is a bead edged white metal plaque with a repousse (raised) design of a WW1 monoplane flying over French soldiers. The soldiers are wearing Kepis rather than Adrian helmets suggesting - along with the very primitive airplane - that it is an early war piece (1914/15).
~ Dimensions ~
The weight has a diameter of 3 inches (7.6 cm) and a height of 0.9 inches (2.1 cm). It weighs 244 g.
~ Condition ~
There are a few chips to the marble - the largest one is on the lower rim, the rest are just fleabites.
