Here we have a mid to late war manufacture 1897 pattern infantry officers sword, these were made in the Sheffield blade manufactories to help the ordinance factories and the more common sword manufacturers keep up with wartime demand. These Sheffield made swords are made to the same standards but just not by the more commonly sought after makers, this one was made by Sanderson who is better known for bayonets.
The 1897 pattern is the pattern still used today by the British Army and was one of the last functional swords ever designed.
This sword has the cost cutting measures like the dull plated and less detailed guard and the lack of a proof slug.
The sword and scabbard are in good shape for their age with the knot present which is a nice little rarity.
