The Lee–Enfield, or Enfield, a bolt-action, magazine-fed rifle, served as the British Empire's main firearm from 1895 to 1957. The Mk. III* was a simplified wartime version used in WWI, WWII, and beyond. It omitted the magazine cut off, volley sights, and windage adjustment on the rear sight. Noteworthy is the unchanged protective ear, positioned to the right to accommodate the absent windage screw.
The magazine, marked M/56, was produced by Cheney & Son Ltd of Willenham. Deactivated, this rifle is an iconic 20th-century collectible.
