*West-German, c1950-60, Hunting Utility Knife – Decora Solingen, Multi-Tool with Scabbard*

This is a classic post-war German-made hunter’s utility knife by Decora Solingen, a well-known Solingen-based cutler. The knife features a robust 12cm saw-back blade marked "DECORA SOLINGEN, MADE IN GERMANY, D.B.G.M.", indicating not only origin but that the design or function was legally registered in Germany (Deutsches Bundesgebrauchsmuster – German Registered Design). This designation began after 1949, when West Germany (the Federal Republic of Germany) was established. It was mainly used during the 1950s–1960s, especially on tools, knives, and utility items exported abroad, before being replaced by modern patent/trademark laws. Decora was a lesser-known brand operating in post-war Solingen, likely targeting the export or civilian hunting market. Their products, like this one, were common souvenirs or practical field tools sold to NATO soldiers, campers, and outdoorsmen during the 1950s–60s boom in German cutlery exports.

This versatile multi-tool includes a locking saw-back main blade, a can opener, bottle opener, screwdriver, corkscrew, and marlinspike—all folding into a durable synthetic chequered grip. The grip is decorated with a heraldic-style yellow crest marked "Solingen" featuring a stag and fish motif, symbolizing traditional German hunting themes. A handguard is integrated for safe use as a fixed blade when required.

The accompanying leather sheath is of the period and shows age-appropriate wear with field repairs, including wire stitching and reinforcement to the belt loop, adding character and evidence of real-world use.

*Condition*
The knife displays heavy honest wear and dark oxidation/patina to the blade and tools, consistent with prolonged storage or field use. The tools open and close with firm tension. The plastic grips are intact, though scuffed. The scabbard is complete, though the leather is worn and has had amateur repairs. Three of the four lower rivets are missing and the missing rivet at the throat has been reinforced. Please refer to photographs as part of the condition report.
