*Victorian, Antique Walking Stick with Carved Terrier (Schnauzer) Dog Handle*

A charming antique walking stick featuring a finely carved dog’s head handle, most likely a terrier or schnauzer, with black-painted finish, white muzzle, and inset glass eyes giving a lively expression. The handle is mounted on a stained, stepped malacca shaft with a brass (yellow metal) collar, terminating in a metal ferrule. Length 89 cm.

Historical Note
Dog-headed canes and walking sticks became particularly fashionable in the late Victorian and Edwardian period, when both animalier carving and malacca shafts were highly prized. Terrier breeds, symbolic of loyalty and alertness, were a popular choice among gentlemen’s accessories of the time.

*Condition*
Good overall condition with honest age patina. Minor wear to painted finish on the dog’s head, and expected minor handling marks to shaft. Ferrule shows signs of wear consistent with age and use. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
