~ Union Castle RMS Edinburgh Castle Nautical Table Bell c1960 ~

A small Nautical bell bearing the enamel badge of R.M.S Edinburgh Castle. The bell itself is of brass with the handle in the form of a ships wheel.

This bell is complete with its clapper.

The inside of the bell is marked "Made in England."

~ Dimensions ~

The bell stands at 3.75 inches (9.5cm). The mouth measures 2 inches (5cm) in diameter. The bell weighs 105g.

~ Condition ~

The bell is in decent vintage condition. The brass has dulled with age but there are no dents or damage to the bell other than some surface wear. The enamel badge is clear and bright.

~ R.M.S Edinburgh Castle ~

She was built by Harland & Wolff in Belfast for Union-Castle Line and launched in 1948. She was the sister ship of Pretoria Castle and replaced the Warwick Castle that was lost in the Second World War. They were built to meet the terms of the mail contract signed in 1945. At the time they were the largest ships in the fleet and the Edinburgh Castle continued in loyal service until 1976 when she was retired by Union-Castle Line.
She was of 28705 GRT and could carry 693 passengers in 2 classes. She made her final voyage in 1976.
