*Swedish, c1899-1913, Model 1896 Knife Bayonet & Scabbard, Eskilstuna Jernmanufactur AB, I 19 Norrbotten Regiment*

Knife bayonet for the 6.5 mm m/1896 Swedish Mauser rifle, complete with original steel scabbard, both crisply regimentally marked to I 19 (Norrbotten Regiment).

A classic Swedish m/1896 knife bayonet, featuring the characteristic fullered spear‑point blade and tubular, cross‑hatched steel grip with conical spring catch. The bayonet retains attractive, even patina throughout, with much of its original blued finish still visible to the grip and crosspiece. The blade shows honest service wear with age‑appropriate surface marks, remaining well‑defined and true.

The bayonet is fitted with its correct blued steel scabbard, the scabbard retaining its ball finial and belt stud, and displaying matching period wear consistent with long service.

Bayonet Markings:
- Ricasso marked EJ with Crown/Anchor AB over 585, identifying manufacture by Eskilstuna Jernmanufactur AB.
- Swedish crown inspection marks present.
- Crossguard stamped 6 / I 19 / No. 60, identifying 6th Company, 19th Infantry Regiment, weapon number 60.
- Crown marks present to the crosspiece arm and pommel attachment.

Scabbard Markings:
- Throat marked Crown over C, the mark of Carl Gustafs Stads Gevärsfaktori.
- Regimental marking 1 / I 19 / No. 694 to the scabbard body.
- Serial number 786 and crown marks present to the throat and finial.

Both bayonet and scabbard are correctly and convincingly marked to the same regiment (I 19), representing an authentic service‑matched set.

Approx. Measurements – Blade length: 20.6 cm. Overall length: 32.5 cm.

Historical Note:
The m/1896 bayonet was adopted alongside the 6.5 mm :m/1896 Swedish Mauser rifle and remained in service for decades, later being used with the m/1938 short rifle and the AG42/AG42B Ljungman self‑loading rifle. Its long service life reflects the exceptional quality of Swedish military steel manufacture and the conservative approach of the Swedish Army to equipment replacement.

Production of the m/1896 bayonet was undertaken by three principal manufacturers: Eskilstuna Jernmanufactur AB (1899–1912) – approx. 280,000 produced; Carl Gustafs Stads Gevärsfaktori (from 1913) and Erik Anton Berg AB (dates uncertain). Total production across all manufacturers is estimated at approximately 665,000 examples. Early bayonets featured a flat spring catch, later replaced by the conical spring catch seen on this example, which became the standard and most commonly encountered form.

This bayonet is marked to the 19th Infantry Regiment (I 19), better known as the Norrbotten Regiment (Swedish: Norrbottens regemente). Formed as a regiment in 1892, I 19 was raised to defend Sweden’s northern territories and later garrisoned at Boden from 1907. The regiment became renowned for its arctic service and frontier role, giving pieces marked to I 19 particular historical interest.

*Condition*
