A very attractive and well-marked pre-war Soviet Mosin-Nagant M91/30 rifle, dated 1937 and manufactured at the Tula Arsenal, retaining its classic wartime-profile timber stock, hooded front sight, tangent rear sight, cleaning rod and sling.
This deactivated Soviet bolt-action service rifle is chambered in 7.62mm and measures 122.5cm overall with a 73cm barrel. The barrel shank is clearly stamped with the Tula star-and-arrow arsenal mark above the date 1937, together with the serial number 129836. History Note: The Mosin-Nagant M91/30 was the standard infantry rifle of the Soviet Union in the years before and during the Second World War. Developed from the original Model 1891, the M91/30 was modernised with improved sights and standardised features suited to mass military production. Rifles made at Tula in the later 1930s, such as this 1937 example, represent the important interwar rearmament period when the Soviet Union was expanding and updating its arsenals ahead of the conflict to come. Tula production is especially recognisable by the prominent star arsenal marking on the barrel shank. These rifles went on to serve throughout the Second World War on every major Eastern Front battlefield and remain among the most iconic military long arms of the twentieth century.
