~ Royal Albert Beatrix Potter Figurine 'Peter Ate a Radish', BP-6a Backstamp, issued 1995 ~

A hand-painted porcelain figurine of Peter Rabbit from the Beatrix Potter series produced by Royal Albert, depicting the specific model titled Peter Ate a Radish. The figure shows Peter standing upright in his characteristic pale blue jacket, holding a radish in each paw with a third appearing at his mouth, surrounded by green leafy vegetable foliage at his waist. He stands on a naturalistic yellow-ochre mound base with scattered green leaves and pink radish details at ground level. The modelling is crisp and characterful, capturing Peter's wide-eyed expression with a dark brown painted eye. The piece is fully in the round. The base carries the full Royal Albert backstamp in brown, reading: ROYAL ALBERT ® / ENGLAND / Peter ate a Radish / Beatrix Potter / © F. WARNE & CO 1995 / © 1995 ROYAL ALBERT LTD. Additional painted factory production marks are present to the base interior.

~ Historical Context ~
Royal Albert produced its licensed range of Beatrix Potter figurines from 1989 following the acquisition of the range from Beswick, who had held the licence since 1948. The Royal Albert figures carry the BP-6 series of backstamps, with the BP-6a mark — as found on this piece — denoting the first sub-series of the Royal Albert era. Peter Ate a Radish was only produced by Royal Albert and not by Beswick. It was modelled by Warren Platt, issued in 1995, and discontinued in 1998 — giving it a production window of just three years, which is notably short within the wider range and adds to its collectibility relative to longer-running titles. The figure captures a specific scene from Beatrix Potter's original illustrations, maintaining the soft palette and rounded, approachable character modelling that defined the entire Royal Albert range. Royal Albert's Beatrix Potter figures were made in England throughout this period, a point of significance to collectors as production later moved abroad. The range transferred to Enesco in 2002 when Royal Albert's licence ended.
