The blade measures 270mm, the entire knife measures 400mm. This is a fine example of a "sawback" Bowie knife with triangular nodules cut into the spine of the blade, creating a series of teeth that resemble those of a saw. The blade is marked R & R Hiddleton, Sheffield. The handle is bone effect, ridged textured and stained with a brass pommel and brass guard. The scabbard is leather stitched with the addition of two rivets and a decorative rosette with leather tassels in the top center.

R & R Hiddleton was a Sheffield-based cutlery company that produced Bowie knives and other edged tools during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The company was known for its high-quality craftsmanship and attention to detail. Sawback Bowie knives were originally designed for military use, as the saw-like teeth were intended to help soldiers saw through branches and other obstacles in the field. One notable feature of R & R Hiddleton's Bowie knives was their distinctive "fishtail" shape, which featured a curved point that resembled the tail of a fish. This design was intended to provide additional control and leverage during use, particularly for tasks such as skinning and butchering game. The Bowie knife was originally designed in the early 19th century by James Bowie, a famous frontiersman and folk hero of the American West.

*Condition*
The knife is in excellent condition with minor dings to the brass guard and pommel. The scabbard is in good order with slight scratching. Please see pictures for more detail as they form part of our condition report.
