SKU: JA_835549626 Category:

This is a well preserved German Imperial artillery officers sword.

The blade is engraved with scenes of battle on one side, depicting the field artillery deploying in the field, and with foliage and "2reil. Ballerie Artl. Regt 22".

So the sword was of an officer commanding the second artillery battery of the 22nd Regiment. This regiment is, in fact, the 2nd Westphalian Filed Artillery regiment, part of the 7th Army Corps stationed in Munster. The regiment was formed on 24 October 1872.

The sword seems to be an early piece in the history of the regiment due to the depictions on its blade. The uniforms and weapons displayed to show it to be from the era of Otto von Bismarck.

The sword comes with its leather and silver bullion tassel and with its black painted metal scabbard.

The hand guard is made of gilded brass ending in a lion head with red glass eyes pommel.

~ Condition ~

The sword is in good condition for its age.

The blade remains free of rust but it is slightly bent to the left due to improper storage, but this can be fixed with ease.

The brass guard has been re-gilded at one point in time without a proper cleaning job done in advance. It will benefit a nice polishing and re-gilding.

The grip had one, slightly loose wire.

The scabbard remains fine. It has been repainted probably at the same time with the guard.
