This is a very rare, highly collectable piece from the early days of Queen Victoria's reign.

Beside the fact of being one of the early Wilkinson swords (the company started numbering their swords from serial number 5000 only in 1854), it is also of an Officer in command of one of the harbour defence batteries.

The blade is nicely decorated with good quality foliage engravings bearing the Queen's crown over the fouled anchor underneath the "Royal Dockyard Batt N" logo and proof star on one side and the Crown over the Royal cypher and the Wilkinson trade mark on the other.

The gilded brass basket bears the Queens Crown over the fouled anchor as well and the grip is made of copper wired black shagreen with a brass lion pommel.

The gold and navy blue sword knot is present as well.

The sword comes with its original black leather scabbard with brass fittings.

The locket of the scabbard bears a Wilkinson cartouche which faded due to its age.

~ Dimensions ~

The blade is 31 ½ inches (80 cm) long and the overall length of the sword in its scabbard is 38 ½ inches (98 cm).

It weighs 1.2 Kg.

~ Condition ~

The blade is in fair condition for its age. The is some amount of pitting on the edges of the middle section and the expected patina.

The brass elements of the grip remain undamaged with some loss of gild and oxidisation.

The shagreen is excellent.

The scabbard's leather unstitched on a small section on the lower end. Its brass elements have the expected wear for the age.
