Original WW1 British SMLE Mk III* Rifle

1st World War Short-Magazine Lee-Enfield Mark 3*

Out of stock

During the First World War, the SMLE Mk III was found to be too complicated to manufacture and demand outstripped supply. In late 1915 the Mk III* was introduced incorporating several changes, the most prominent of which were the removal of the long-range volley sights and the deletion of the magazine cut-off mechanism which, when engaged, covers the magazine well and prevents a fresh round from moving into position once the previous casing was ejected. Other smaller changes were made to the Lee-Enfield, making them easier to manufacture. This particular SMLE was made for military use and is dated 1918.

*Condition*

Overall, excellent condition but with a small scratch to the right of the forestock and patches of minor pitting to some of the metal parts. Please see pictures for more detail as they form part of our condition report.
