- Original Indian Brunswick Percussion Infantry Rifle with Bayonet -
This is a great example of the well-known Indian Brunswick two-grove percussion rifle which saw a varied use throughout the British Empire. In our case though the rifling has been removed because the piece survived the Indian Mutiny and like all the other muskets issued to the Indian troups, the rifling has been removed. The purpose was to enable the British forces to outrange the locals in case of a confrontation.
It was also used in the American Civil War in 1861. It was replaced with the early variants of the Lee Enfield's such as the 1851 Lee Enfield.
*Condition*
The rifle and the bayonet is in good condition with little pitting on the rifle. The bayonet has a floral decoration that engulfs the handle which is in excellent condition.
The rifle rode can be taken out and could be partially stripped if wished. The bayonet can be attached (not shown as our photo booth is not big enough for this).
