Trench warfare was very common throughout World War 1 and therefore periscopes were a necessary piece of equipment to ensure vision of the enemy. Periscopes were used to survey the surrounding area, although they were prone to being damaged by gunfire.

This particular periscope is a British handheld version made by R&J Beck Ltd in 1918. The periscope bears the following: “Periscope No 25 (X6 ø 7^o)/ R. & J. Beck Ltd / 1918 / No 3967” with the broad arrow also featured.

Total length in pouch 46cm (18 inches)

*Condition*

This periscope is in great condition. All parts have been nicely maintained with no damage. The metal parts have some small areas of pitting.

The end cap of the leather sleeve is not attached
