Lee Enfield Mk.III* (deactivated) Rifle. Manufactured and dated 1940, this rifle is numbered on the bolt 95852. .303." CAl. 24" Barrel Length. This Lee-Enfield Mark 111 rifle bears the following marks, The Crown Cypher, 'The BSA Co Ld.1940 SHT L.E 111'. It was made by the Birmingham Small Arms Company Limited," one of the primary manufacturers of Lee-Enfield rifles. The stock bears the letters S.L. and a Star and V. Under the trigger is the war departments broad arrow and proof marks. Other proof marks are also present. See photographs for further detail. The rifle is deactivated to current requirements, the bolt cycles and the magazine is removable. A very nice example.

The Lee-Enfield Rifle was known for its reliability, accuracy, and rapid fire capabilities. A redesign of the Lee–Metford (adopted by the British Army in 1888), the Lee–Enfield superseded the earlier Martini–Henry, Martini–Enfield, and Lee-Metford rifles. The best-known Lee–Enfield rifle, the SMLE Mk III, was introduced on 26 January 1907, and featured a simplified rear sight arrangement and a fixed, rather than a bolt-head-mounted sliding, charger guide. The SMLE Mk III* (renamed Rifle No.1 Mk III in 1926) saw extensive service throughout the Second World War, especially in the North African, Italian, Pacific and Burmese theatres in the hands of British and Commonwealth forces.

This is a good example of a Lee-Enfield rifle . The rifle is in overall good condition with no rust or other damages to the body of the rifle. The stock is slightly loose. The body has a good patina commensurate with its age. The magazine can be easily removed. Please refer to photographs as these form part of the condition report. Deactivation certificate included.
