This is an 1856 pattern Yataghan sword bayonet which was originally made for the Model 1853, .577 calibre Enfield rifled musket. Not only were they used in British units, but they were also sold in large numbers to both the Union and Confederate armies during the American Civil War. Designed for issue to the men of the elite rifle regiments, Yataghans were designed primarily for use in their own right as short swords.

*Condition*

This Yataghan blade is in excellent condition for its age with some small areas of pitting. The scabbard’s leather remains strong and there is some pitting to the metal parts but no real damage. Please see pictures for more detail as they form part of our condition report.
