~ Mounted Bronze Ships Plaque Submarine HMS Alaric (P441) ~

The plaque depicts two crossed scythe, forming an almost "X" style shape, in front of a sword. This bronze plaque is mounted onto an oak board & is easily ready for hanging.

Bronze pieces tend to come from the actual vessel so it is probably an ex-wardroom piece.

~ HMS Alaric ~

HMS Alaric (P441), was an Amphion-class submarine of the Royal Navy, built by Cammell Laird laid down in May 1944 and launched 18 February 1946.

Alaric served on the home station all her life and was modernised in the 1960s. In 1953 she took part in the Fleet Review to celebrate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. In 1968 she was part of the First Submarine Squadron based at HMS Dolphin and took part in Navy Days at Portsmouth during that year.

She was decommissioned in 1971 & sold to be broken up for scrap on 24 June 1971; scrapping took place at Inverkeithing in July 1971.

~ Dimensions ~

The plaque has a height of 10 inches (25.4 cm), a diameter of 8 inches (20.3 cm) and a depth of 2 inches (5 cm). It weighs 3.68 kg.

~ Condition ~

The plaque is in excellent condition, with no sign of damage to the wood.
