At the rear of the lockplate is the East India Company cypher and 1798 date and forward 'MORTIMER'.
The barrel is stamped
"JPR/EXR/2626"
on the left hand side and
"95
16 6 39
187"
on the right hand side, presumably regiment/conversion date/rack number.
~ Dimensions ~
The barrel length is 97cm (38.25 inches) so cut down by three quarters of an inch from regulation with an overall length of 138.5 cm (54.5 inches). It weighs 4.05 Kg.
~ Condition ~
The piece is in decent condition. The wood work has seen service wear including bruising and loss to the right side under the barrel, half way along. It half cocks and cocks with a strong spring. The ramrod fits snugly. The metalwork is very free from pitting considering its age.
