Here we have an early 20th-century brass marine sextant.

This is an instrument with a graduated arc of 120° and a sighting mechanism, used for measuring the angular distances between objects and especially for taking altitudes in navigation and surveying.

It comes with multiple glasses and telescopes allow fine adjustment of the inclination angle.

It comes in its original mahogany case which tells us that it made is by ER Watts & Sons along with some other information for the user on using it and that inspector to make sure that it's satisfactory.

The case is 5.5 inches (14cm) by 10.6 inches (27cm) by 10.4inches (26.5 cm).

The sextant itself is i7.8 inches (20 cm) by 10 inches (26 cm) 2.3 inches by (6 cm).

Overall it weighs 4.7 Kg.

~ Condition ~

The sextant is untested but appears complete. The filters are uncracked and as is the mirror, though this has lost some of its silvering. It is generally in quite worn and dusty condition.

The case is quite battered with no key or brass plaque.
