Here we have a near mint WW2 period Katana. This is an incredibly interesting piece I would say was made in the last few months of WW2 due to the compromises made on the sword and its fittings.

Still the sword is a brilliant blade and I would not be surprised if this sword were an earlier sword from Imperial Japan (Post 1870), it is definitely factory made and also appears to fit the profile of a kyu gunto where I suspect it may be from. This would make sense as in the last months of the war the Japanese government were calling out for all blades as they needed materials for the war effort.

The sword is constructed of a beautifully machined blade with a hamon (possibly this sword being oil quenched), a wood and leather sheath, a cord wrapped shagreen grip with gunmetal fittings.

Overall this is an incredibly clean and interesting example of a last ditch weapon and would look brilliant in any collection.

The blade is 28 inches (71 cm) long.

The sword is 38 inches (96.5 cm) long.

The sword weighs 1.16Kg.

~ Condition ~

The sword is in excellent condition for its age and what it is with some minor scuffs to the leather and the catch has snapped.
