*1866 Pattern German Chassepot Bayonet and Scabbard by Alex Coppel*

A German made Model 1866 Chassepot Bayonet. This bayonet is brass-hilted with a spring steel latching arrangement on the right side. The crossguard is iron (steel) and has a screw-type tightening arrangement on the muzzle-ring. The lower quillion is a hooked "blade-breaker" type. The 57cm blade is steel, single-edged, fullered (both sides), with a re-curved or "yataghan-shape." This blade is maker marked The maker's mark to the blade forte is an A and C with scales in the middle which means it was made by Alex Coppel in Solingen and the Letter Z in an oval to the reverse and proof marks to the quillion. The original scabbard scabbard is black sheet-rolled steel with a ball finial.

*Condition*
The bayonet is in good condition with some rusting to the cross guard and quillion. The blade is in good condition with no nicks and some minor age related rusting and tarnishing. The metal scabbard is fairly rusted and pitted. Please refer to the images as a part of our condition report.
