A bronze boat badge from the Royal Navy destroyer HMS Gabriel.

The badge is of solid bronze and depicts the angel Gabriel in relief on a painted blue ground with rope border.

The badge is attached to a wood mount.

~ HMS Gabriel ~

HMS Gabriel was a Marksman-class flotilla leader of the British Royal Navy, that took part in the First World War.

The ship was launched in December 1915 and entering service in July 1916.

Gabriel served with the Grand Fleet, leading a destroyer flotilla and was later used as a minelayer.

She survived the war, before being sold for scrap on in May 1921.

The badge measures 12cm (4 ¾ inches) by 13.5cm (5 ¼ inches).

The mount measures 14.5cm (5 ¾ inches) by 16.5cm (6 ½ inches).

Overall it weighs 1.73 Kg

~ Condition ~

The badge is in very good condition though looks as though it had an attachment (top edge) which is no longer present.

The mount has light surface wear but is in good order overall.
