*German, WW2, Long Handled Pioneer Wire Cutters, Maker Marked*

Approximate Measurements: 62cm long (closed)
Maker marked but hard to read

The German Pioniertruppen (Pioneer troops) were highly versatile, tasked with laying mines, building or demolishing bridges, clearing obstacles, and constructing fortifications. To accomplish these duties, they carried specialized equipment, including long spades, saws, explosives, detonators, and wire cutters.

The Drahtschere (wire cutters) were produced in two versions: a short-handled type for Gruppenführers or NCOs and a long-handled type measuring nearly 25 inches in length, intended for Pioneer troops. Both variants featured insulated pressed paper handles with Bakelite end caps.

This example is well-preserved, with clear markings on the cutting head and appears to be fully functional. However, the pressed paper handles show some erosion, and the Bakelite end caps have chipped, exposing the underlayer.

A fantastic piece of field-used German Pioneer equipment, perfect for display.
