*German, WW2, Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross, by C. E. Juncker Berlin (“L/12”), Silver Marked “800”, With Original Neck Ribbon*

A superb and original Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross (Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes), complete with its full-length neck ribbon. This example is correctly constructed with a magnetic iron core and a silver frame, the reverse bearing the date 1813 and the obverse with the swastika and 1939. Both the suspension loop and frame are silver hallmarked “800”, denoting silver content, while the upper arm of the cross is further stamped “L/12”, the official LDO code for C. E. Juncker, Berlin, one of the most prestigious manufacturers of high-quality wartime awards.

Historical Note:
The Knight’s Cross was instituted on 1st September 1939 as Germany’s highest award for bravery and leadership in the field. Worn at the throat on a distinctive wide black, white, and red ribbon, it quickly became the most iconic decoration of the German armed forces. Only around 7,300 awards were made across all branches of the Wehrmacht, Waffen-SS, and Kriegsmarine, making original pieces extremely rare. Juncker was one of the foremost medal makers in Berlin, renowned for producing some of the finest examples with crisp detail and excellent craftsmanship. Their pieces are particularly sought after due to both quality and documented wartime issue.

*Condition*
This example is in excellent condition, with strong black lacquer remaining to the magnetic core and only light age-related toning to the silver frame, which retains an attractive patina. The silver marks “800” and “L/12” are clear and sharp. The original wide neck ribbon shows honest service wear and careful period stitching at the ends, but remains complete and displays very well. The suspension loop and clasp are also silver marked “800”, further confirming authenticity. Overall, a rare and desirable piece in outstanding original condition, offered with its full period ribbon and exceptional provenance markings. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
