*German, WW2, Iron Cross 2nd Class (Eisernes Kreuz II. Klasse) with Original Ribbon*
A genuine World War II German Iron Cross 2nd Class (EK II), measuring approximately 4.6 cm across, of magnetic three-piece construction with a magnetic iron core and silvered frame. The obverse displays the swastika and date 1939, while the reverse bears the traditional 1813 date commemorating the institution of the original award by King Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia. The frame retains traces of its original silver finish, now evenly darkened from age, giving it an attractive patina. Complete with its correct period red, white, and black ribbon.
Approx. Measurements: Cross width: 4.6 cm. Ribbon length: approx. 12 cm
Historical Note: Reinstituted by Adolf Hitler on 1 September 1939, the Iron Cross 2nd Class was awarded for acts of bravery in battle or distinguished military leadership. Its design continued the long tradition begun during the Napoleonic Wars, with the dates 1813 and 1939 symbolically linking the Wehrmacht to earlier Prussian heroism. Over 4.5 million Iron Crosses 2nd Class were awarded during World War II, yet examples retaining their original finish and ribbon remain highly collectible today.
*Condition* Good, honest condition with darkened patina and light edge wear from age and handling. Minor rusting to the core around the central motif. The suspension ring shows expected age oxidation. Ribbon appears period and retains strong colour. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
