*German, WW2, Iron Cross 2nd Class, "100" Rudolf Wächtler & Lange, with Original Packet and Ribbon*

A fine original example of the German Iron Cross 2nd Class (Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse), awarded during the Second World War for acts of bravery or leadership in battle. This piece is maker marked "100" on the suspension ring, denoting manufacture by Rudolf Wächtler & Lange of Mittweida, a well-known and respected wartime producer.

The cross features a magnetic iron core with strong black paint finish, surrounded by a silvered frame showing attractive age patina. The obverse displays the swastika above the date "1939," while the reverse bears "1813" to commemorate the institution of the original Iron Cross. Included is the full-length, near mint condition ribbon in red, white, and black, and the original award packet (Tüte) marked Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse 1939.

*Condition*
Excellent overall condition. The iron core retains nearly all its black finish, and the silver frame has only minor edge wear and attractive toning consistent with age. The ribbon is in mint condition and remains bright with minimal fraying at one end. The original packet shows light creasing and slight age staining but remains structurally sound and complete. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.

Historical note
The Iron Cross was first established in 1813 by King Frederick William III of Prussia and was later revived during major German conflicts, including the Franco-Prussian War and World War I. Adolf Hitler re-instituted it on 1 September 1939 at the start of World War II. The Iron Cross 2nd Class was awarded for a single act of bravery or successful leadership and was worn suspended from the ribbon, typically through the second buttonhole of the uniform tunic. Its design, featuring the black cross with silver border and dates "1813" and "1939," became one of the most recognizable military decorations of the era.
